Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter, where we are going to explore amazing advancements in the field of reading and how they are shaping the way we absorb information. In this newsletter, we are going to delve into the fascinating world of “Bionic reading” – an emerging trend that could revolutionize the way we retain information.

What is Bionic reading?

According to its creator, Renato Cassult, Bionic Reading combines technology and biology to enhance reading experiences for people with reading difficulties. By using visual aids, Bionic reading tools strive to improve reading efficiency and retaining information. This works by helping readers direct their eyes with fixation points as they read. These fixation points are created by using bold letters on half of each word, the reader then only concentrates on the initial letters that have been highlighted, which allows the reader’s brain to fill in the rest of the word.

The Bionic Reading app and Google Chrome extensions allow you to vary how many fixation points there are in the text if it seems too chaotic for your eyes, the amount of each word that’s bolded, and the transparency of your text, along with the font, spacing and width.

Does it actually work?

Although there is no proven research on bionic reading yet, it seems to be a particularly trending topic on social media platforms such as TikTok and Twitter as people are claiming it to be a useful method for people with ADHD or other neurodivergent people. People say not only does it help them read a lot quicker than they usually would, it also helps them retain the information they are reading instead of having to reread sentences.

Noones reading style will be the same as everybody elses, so whether this works for you or not, it’s always worth giving it a go! If you do try the Bionic reading method, let us know if it worked for you by messaging us on LinkedIn!
